Summer to Fall…The transition.
Why buy a whole new wardrobe when you can simply transition your favorite summer gear into fashion forward outfits for the fall? Here are a few great ideas on transforming your clothes from summer to a great fall looks:
What to Keep:
Shorts: Turn your shorts into a great summer looking by wearing a patterned stocking or leggings underneath. This look will go great with heels or boots.
Spaghetti Strapped Dresses: This is a perfect time to apply layers to protect your upper body from chill air. Try throwing on a classic cardigan over the dress for warmth, or a solid color long sleeved shirt underneath the dress.
Add a Belt: You can turn any summer dress and sweater combo into an outspoken ensemble with a distinctive belt. Belts really do make statements.
Blouses: The fall is a good time to wear your lighter blouses into the office with a nice dress pant. This season we suggest something high wasted to go with your blouse.
Give it Up and Save it for Next Summer:
Sandals: It’s entirely too cold in the Fall to have your feet bare and laid out. Keep the sandals in the closet, and please oh please don’t even try wearing them with socks.
Neon Colors: This screams sunshine and fun in the sun. These colors are a bit awkward during the Fall months
Linen: Linen is meant to help keep you cool, which is the exact opposite of what you are trying to do in the Fall. Save it for next summer.
Straw hats: In the Fall there is less sun. The key to get accessorizing is for it to be somewhat functional and appropriate to the outfit and environment, but at the same time complements one’s personal style. A straw hat in the fall is hardly functional and should be kept in the closet past August.
Anything can be transitioned with a little imagination. Just remember that boots, scarves, jackets, belts, tights and leggings are all going to be your main tools in setting off those summer pieces into amazing fall ensembles. Also, realize that some items just need to realize some items should stay in the closet.
Fall is nearing which means DRY SKIN…shea, cocoa, or oils?
Growing up all I knew about in regards to alternatives to lotion was Palmer’s cocoa butter, which is very watered down and pricey considering most of the ingredients are even cocoa butter. It smells good, but hardly as effective as it should be. When I grew older, my mom began to get health conscious and began taking me with her to health food stores, and there is where I discovered 100% cocoa butter! Then years go buy, and I get into almond oil, olive oil, coconut oil…and lots of other different oils, right? I finally was hipped to shea butter as a young adult, and that’s been my consistent moisturizer of choice for sometime now because: 1. It’s pretty easy to spread (unlike cocoa butter) 2. It leaves my skin softer than any oil I’ve used, and definitely much softer than when I was using cocoa butter. 3. It’s not as messy as oil can be. 4. It has lighted up a lot of my stretch marks!
What works for me may not work for you, so here is a run down of the pros and cons of each (to categorize all oils in one category, then compare them all to shea and cocoa butter is a bit simplistic, and I know there are lots of other kinds of natural moisturizers out there, but I choose to focus on and categorize these this way because shea and cocoa butter are very popular, and all the oils out there are not all that distinctive to me as far skin care goes):
Shea Butter
Pro: Pretty easy to spread (in comparison to cocoa butter), and it leaves skin super soft instantly after application and lasts the whole day. It’s sticky and nasty, so it’s GREAT for a hand cream.
Con: It kind of stinks if you smell it in the jar. Well, let’s just stay cocoa butter smells a lot better. Once you put it on that goes away, so I see it as a non-issue. Plus, there are 100% natural brands you can get that have an added scent.
Cocoa Butter
Pro: The smell is irresistible. You smell like chocolate! Supposedly take away scars really well, but I never experienced this.
Con: HARD to spread. You might as well microwave it, or else you’ll be sitting there for some time trying to rub it on.
Oils
Pro: Goes on easy.
Con: Can be messy. Obviously oil is more fluid so, you’re gonna have a mess if you spill it, and it’s easier to put too much on, which can result in oil stains on clothes (ugh, that happened to me on prom night).
